Volleyball Wins First Match of the Season; Fall to MSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Four Fort Lewis College volleyball student-athletes recorded 11 kills each in the Skyhawks season opening match against Northwestern Oklahoma State University.  The Skyhawks earned a 3-2 win to start the season 1-0 (20-25, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12). 
 
In the night cap match of the Midwestern State University Hampton Inn-vitational in Wichita Falls, Texas, FLC fell to the host school, 3-1 (11-25, 25-22, 11-25, 20-25).
 
The Skyhawks recorded 55 kills against NOSU and dug up 94 attacks.  Stephani Sonka, Ashley Wells, Madi Bickle and Emily Dellenbach each contributed 11 kills, while Ciara Krening posted 35 set assists.  Heather Danny saw action in one set to tally 12 set assists.  Ally Dell'Amico recorded a match high 31 digs and Lindley Gallegos served up three aces.
 
NOSU's Ashanti Bank led all players with 18 kills.
 
"We battled to win in five sets," said head coach Kelley Rifilato.  "We had strong play from our four hitters to go with our 10 service aces and 16 blocks."
 
Against the Mustangs, Danny put up 33 assists, 10 of which went to Sonka for a team high.  Bickle added seven kills and committed only one error on 19 attempts for a .316 hitting percentage.  Dell'Amico led the team again defensively with 24 digs.
 
The Skyhawks labored at the net offensively, hitting only .096 for the match. 
 
Four Mustangs notched at least 10 kills with Meghan Bettis boasting 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage.
 
"We struggled to find consistently in our serve receive against MSU," said Rifilato. "They are a very athletic, strong blocking team (17 blocks).  Lindley served well for us today with four aces against MSU and seven total on the day."
 
Fort Lewis will play their final two matches of the weekend tomorrow against No. 10 Washburn (8 a.m. MT) and Cameron (1 p.m. MT).
