Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas – September 6, 2014 – No. 10 Washburn University held the Fort Lewis College volleyball team to a negative hitting percentage Saturday morning at the Midwestern State University Hampton Inn-vitational in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Skyhawks fell 3-0 to the Ichabods (-18, -17, -12). In their final match of the weekend, the Skyhawks dropped a 3-1 decision to Cameron University (-15, -21, 25-21, 25-14).
Ashley Wells tallied eight kills against WU and added 10 digs and one block.
Heather Danny accounted for 19 of the Skyhawks 20 set assists. Fort Lewis hit .000 in the first set, followed by a -.024 in the second set and a -.065 in the third.
Leanna Willer led WU with 13 kills. The Ichabods tallied 41 kills and hit .207 with nine blocks.
"Washburn is a fundamentally sound volleyball team and they make very few errors," said Fort Lewis College head volleyball coach
Kelley Rifilato. "We need to find a way to limit our errors and learn from this match. We were able to do some really good thing offensively but need to correct defensive mistakes quickly. "
Against Cameron, the Skyhawks posted 41 kills on
Ciara Krening's 30 set assists. Kenney Clark chipped in seven assists as the Skyhawks recorded an assist on every kill.
Ally Dell'Amico dug up 20 attacks. Wells added 15 digs and
Lindley Gallegos post 10.
Three CU player's recorded 10 more kills with Shannon DuLaney and Kat Evans each tallying 13.
"We went with a larger line up against Cameron and played a 6-2 offense," said Rifilato. "Our team needs to learn from this weekend and build on our success. We have to find a way to terminate the ball on our first contact. We are playing good defense and serving tough."
Fort Lewis (1-3) will travel to Kingsville, Texas next week to play West Texas A&M, Adelphi, American International and Eastern New Mexico.
