DURANGO, Colo. – November 13, 2015 – A solid shooting performance and a strong defensive game resulted in a 27-point season opening win for the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team Friday night against Westminster College in the 2015 Skyhawks Regional Challenge. The Skyhawks defeated the Griffins in their first home game of the season, 73-46.
The Skyhawks finished the game making 30 of 71 field goals for 42.3 percent. FLC held the Griffins to a 30.4 field goal percentage (17 of 56) and only 12.5 percent from behind the arc (3 of 24).
Kylie Santos netted 13 points to tie for game high honors. Nine of her points came from long range as she made 3 of 7 from behind the arc.
Michelle Turner and
Kate Bayes each added nine points and
Alyssa Yocky came off the bench to add eight points and three assists. Turner led both teams with six assists and Sydney Brandon, who went 3 for 3 from the floor, dished out five dimes and stole the ball twice.
Fort Lewis' up pace tempo led to 22 fast break points. The Skyhawks tallied 26 points in the paint and added 19 points off of 16 WC turnovers.
FLC will face Eastern New Mexico University Saturday at 4 p.m.
