Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Sarah Meier, Assistant Athletic Director

Women’s Soccer Season Ends with a Tie

SAN ANGELO, Texas – November 13, 2015 – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team played 110 scoreless minutes against St. Edwards's University Friday night in San Angelo, Texas.  Playing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, both teams went to a shootout to advance to the second round.  Fifth seed SEU made four shots to the Skyhawks three shots to advance to Sunday's round against top seed Angelo State.

"I'm very proud of the girls; we played a great game," said head coach Jimmy Hall.  "We could have won the game earlier but were unfortunate to not have the ball bounce our way.  It's definitely unfortunate to end the game in penalty kicks but the game had to end at some point.  I'm proud of how brave the girls were to get up there and shoot.  It takes a lot of courage and I'm very happy with our young ladies to be able to get up there and know that they put everything they could into the game."

The Skyhawks nearly doubled the Hilltoppers in shots, 17-9, with six shots landing on goal.  Jordan Hix recorded a game high five shots (two shots on goal).

Caitlyn Espinosa stopped all four shots on goal by SEU for her sixth shutout of the season.

St. Edward's made their first four shootout attempts in the fifth period of the game.  The Skyhawks missed their first attempt before Carolyn Archer, Brooke Milliet and Courtney Riley scored for FLC.  SEU missed their final attempt to hold onto a 4-3 shootout lead and advance.

The Skyhawks, ranked No. 25 in the nation and the fourth seed in the South Central Region, end their season at 12-5-4.
