Men’s Soccer Season Ends in RMAC Semifinal Round

GOLDEN, Colo. – November 6, 2015 – Facing No. 8 Colorado School of Mines for the third time this season, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team surrendered their first loss to the Orediggers, 6-2, Friday afternoon at Stermole Stadium in the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

The loss ends the Skyhawks season at 11-6-2 overall.  Both teams played to two double overtime ties in their two regular season matchups.

The two goals scored against the Orediggers are the most any team has scored against CSM since the season opening game on Sept. 5.

Nikolaus Grotz, the RMAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year, scored his first of three goals at 24:58 for a 1-0 CSM lead.  Zac Lawrence tied the game 59 seconds later on a penalty kick.  Less than three minutes later, eighth-ranked Colorado Mines scored two goals for a 3-1 lead.  Tamino Kroeger kept the game close when he found the back of the net for the 10th time this season at 30:26.  Mines added another goal before halftime to take a 4-2 lead.

Grotz sealed the win for the Orediggers as he netted his second and third goals of the game in the second half.  He finished the game with three goals and an assist.

Both Yannis Becker and Kroeger attempted a team high five shots.  Four of Kroeger's shots were on goal while three of Becker's shots landed on frame.

The Skyhawks were outshot, 21-14 and 12-10 shots on goal.
