ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse four game winning streak was snapped Thursday night at Grand Valley State University, 16-5. The loss was only the Skyhawks second of the season as they move to 5-2 overall. GVSU improves to 4-4 on the season.
The Lakers scored the first goal of the game at 20:43 but
Ellie Carpenter quickly tied the game just 10 seconds later. GVSU would net three straight goals before Carpenter found the back of the net at 14:18, followed by
Rebecca Miller's goal at 9:25.
Grand Valley would outscore the Skyhawks 12-2 the remainder of the game, including a string of eight straight goals in the second half.
The Skyhawks were outshot, 33-17, and committed 23 turnovers to GVSU's, 19. The Skyhawks recorded 21 ground balls and won 10 of 23 draw controls.
Carpenter posted a team high two goals, five draw controls and caused three turnovers.
Taylor Cabrera added one goal in the second half and posted a team high eight shots.
Katlyne Duffey picked up a team high six ground balls, followed by
Megan Longtain's four ground balls.
Brie Walker played all 60 minutes between the posts, recording 10 saves.
After playing their first seven games on the road, the Skyhawks will open their home season April 4 against Colorado Mesa University at 1 p.m.
