Box Score 2 SAN MARCOS, Calif. – September 2, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team opened their season with a sweep over Johnson & Wales University (Denver, Colo.) before falling 3-0 to Westmont College. Friday was the opening day of the California State University San Marcos Invitational.
In the season opening match, FLC posted 38 team kills and hit .302 offensively. FLC won all three sets by scores of -10, -22 and -13.
Gabriella Hickman notched eight kills on 21 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage.
Laine Waters hit .500 with no errors on 14 attempts and seven kills, followed by
Maddie LeBlanc's seven kills and .235 hitting percent.
Delaney Scanlan tallied 29 assists, six kills and five digs.
Ally Dell'Amico tabbed a match high 19 digs and served up four aces.
Against Westmont, the Skyhawks fell in straight sets -23, -15 and -20. LeBlanc tallied a team high nine kills on 19 attempts as part of her .263 hitting percentage (four errors).
Hannah Martinez added six kills, followed by
Bailey Longacre's five kills and
Laine Waters' five kills and .250 hitting mark.
Scanlan chipped in 28 assists, eight digs and three kills. Dell'Amico and
Gabriella Hickman accounted for 33 of the Skyhawks 55 digs.
Westmont's Libby Dahlberg and Rea Cassidy led both teams with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
The Skyhawks will play their final two matches of the tournament on Saturday against Sonoma State University at 3 p.m., and host school Cal State San Marcos at 7 p.m.
