Volleyball Downed in Southern California; Longacre and LeBlanc Named to All-Tournament Team

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – September 3, 2016 – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team played their final two matches of the California State University San Marcos Invitational Saturday afternoon.  The Skyhawks faced their first two NCAA Division II opponents of the season, falling to Sonoma State University, 3-1, and Cal State San Marcos, 3-1.  Bailey Longacre and Maddie LeBlanc were named to the All-Tournament Team.
 
The Skyhawks dropped the first set against SSU, 25-21, before tying the match at 1-1 in the second set, 25-19.  FLC lost the final two sets -21 and -13. 
 
Three Skyhawks posted seven kills against Sonoma State – Hannah Martinez, Longacre and LeBlanc.  Longacre posted a team high .238 hitting percentage after committing only two errors on 21 attempts.  Delaney Scanlan notched 32 of the Skyhawks 38 assists and added four kills and four digs.  Matisse Monty served up a match high three aces and added 17 digs.  Defensively at the net Martinez and LeBlanc assisted on three blocks each.
 
The Skyhawks finished the match hitting .137 (39 kills, 20 errors, 139 attempts).  The Skyhawks added 11 aces and five team blocks.
 
FLC faced host school CSU San Marcos in the final match of the weekend.  The Skyhawks won set 1, 25-21, but lost the final three sets -29, -17 and -23.
 
LeBlanc posted a career high 14 kills and committed only one error on 21 attempts for a career best .619 hitting percentage.  She also added two aces, two digs and two blocks.  Longacre chipped in 12 kills and hit .333 at the net.  Scanlan tallied a career high 49 set assists and added 10 digs and three kills.
 
As a team, FLC hit .248 at the net behind 57 kills.  They added nine aces and seven team blocks.
 
LeBlanc and Longacre led the Skyhawks offensively over the weekend.  LeBlanc averaged 2.64 kills per set while hitting .304 at the net.  She added five aces, five digs and 10 blocks.  Longacre finished with 30 kills (2.14 kills per set), a .234 hitting mark, 11 digs and seven blocks.
 
The Skyhawks will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas Sept. 9-10 to play in the Midwestern State University Invitational.
