Malecki, Skyhawks Chart 2-0 Shutout Win at ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. – September 5, 2016 – Junior forward Shayla Malecki scored both goals Monday afternoon to lead the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Eastern New Mexico University.  The win improves the Skyhawks record to 1-1-0.

"The first half was tough," said head coach Jimmy Hall. "I thought we looked tired but then the girls really put it in their minds that they were going to fight and contest and grind it out and I was very proud of them. Shayla and Cooper (Sanchez) absolutely put the team on their back and decided that they were going to score some goals; and so I'm very proud of them.  Cooper played phenomenal.  I'm very proud of those two and the attacking players.  The backline played fantastic and this field worked hard; they grinded and got the job done.  Eastern New Mexico was good and they were difficult to deal with.  I thought we rose to the test and we got a shutout and scored some goals; I'm very happy with the team."

Malecki broke the scoreless game at 53:25 on a breakaway goal from Alicia Sanchez.  Six minutes later at 59:38, Jenna Brown found Malecki for another breakaway goal for the 2-0 result.

Eastern New Mexico edged the Skyhawks on shots, 7-6.  Carolyn Archer and Malecki led the Skyhawks with two shot attempts each.

Freshman goalkeeper Britt Blomso played her first complete game between the posts, making three saves.

FLC will stay on the road next weekend when they face No. 16 Angelo State University on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Midwestern State University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
