Kayla Herrera and the Fort Lewis College women's basketball team posted a 92-80 win over Chadron State College Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium. FLC improves to 14-5 overall and 9-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Eagles fall to 5-11 on the season and 5-8 in RMAC games.
Herrera recorded a career high 27 points after hitting on 10-of-16 field goals and all six free throw attempts. She added eight rebounds, two assists and two turnovers.
Alyssa Yocky's 17-point, 12-rebound performance was her fifth double-double of the season.
Briana Clah dished out a game high seven assists to go with her 13 points.
The Skyhawks, who trailed for less than eight minutes in the game, recorded their largest lead of the game (17 points) with 2:31 left in regulation and held a lead over Chadron State for almost 30 minutes.
Fort Lewis was solid from the floor, hitting 44 percent of their attempts (33-of-75), despite making only 2-of-13 three-point field goals. The Skyhawks were also solid from the charity stripe, making 24-of-27 attempts for 88.9 percent.
FLC's 47-34 rebounding advantage (17-8 offensive rebounds) led to 18 second chance points.
Chadron State's Kalli Feddersen tied for game high honors with 27 points, 11 of which came from the free throw line.
The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado Christian University on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a 1 p.m. game.
