Football Falls on Senior Day to Trailblazers, 23-13

DURANGO, Colo. – November 11, 2017 – All 13 points scored by the Fort Lewis College football team occurred in the second quarter, as they were out-scored in the second half, 23-0, by Dixie State University Saturday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.

The Skyhawks recognized the senior class and their family members prior to kickoff.

The Skyhawks took a 13-0 lead into halftime.  Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter before Ben Raybon broke the tie with a 28-yard field goal.

On the Trailblazers ensuing drive, George Marpaung, Isiah Mayberry and Donell Pleasant III recorded three tackles to hold DSU to a three-and-out and one yard gained.  The defensive stop by FLC led the offense to start the next drive on their own 49-yard line.  Eight plays later Nick McNamee found Mason Hatton for an eight-yard touchdown score, giving FLC a 10-0 lead with 8:39 left in the opening half.

FLC's defense held DSU to only 19 yards on three plays on the following drive, forcing DSU to punt for the fourth time of the half.

On the final drive of the half for the Skyhawks, Raybon tagged on three more points after making a 35-yard field goal with only three ticks left on the clock, capping a 14-play, 67-yard drive that ate up more than seven minutes.

Dixie State cut into FLC's lead on their first drive of the second half, scoring their first of three second half touchdowns.  A missed extra point attempt changed the Skyhawks lead to seven points, 13-6.

The Trailblazers recovered the on-side kick after the touchdown, but Christian Woo intercepted DSU on the FLC-five yard line and returned it 15 yards.  The Skyhawks offense ran eight plays for 36-yards but DSU forced a turnover on downs after FLC failed to convert a fourth-and-six yard play.

The Skyhawks turned the ball over on their next drive, setting up Dixie State to take the ball over on FLC's own four-yard line.  One play later, Blake Barney ran in from four yards out to tie the game, 13-13.

DSU took their first lead of the game, 20-13, just 32 seconds into the fourth quarter.
