GOLDEN, Colo. – November 3, 2017 – Tenth-ranked Colorado Mesa University played the final 65 minutes one player down to defeat the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team in overtime Friday night, 1-0, in the semifinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament, hosted by Colorado School of Mines.
FLC entered the game as the #3 seed. The loss moves the Skyhawks record to 10-6-4 overall.
The Mavericks, seeded No. 2 in the tournament, played with 10 players after Colton Ladyga received his second yellow card in the 28
th minute.
Both teams were held scoreless through regulation, as the Mavericks out-shot FLC, 13-9.
In the 93
rd minute, CMU's Malik Mennana headed the ball in for the game-winning goal.
Churchill Onumonu,
Hakeem Rabiu and
Ryan Lee each attempted two shots against the Mavericks.
Peter Byrne made one save in the game.
The Mavericks will play top seed and RMAC regular season champion Colorado School of Mines on Sunday in the championship game.
