No. 20 Women’s Basketball Back in Whalen

  • The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team is ranked No. 20 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National poll.
  • FLC has been ranked in all four WBCA polls this season.  The highest the Skyhawks have ever been nationally rank was No. 2 (2008-09 season).
  • Fort Lewis holds a current record of 6-1 (5-1 vs. NCAA Division II teams).
  • The Skyhawks will be hosting Colorado Mesa (8-0) and Western State (3-5). The Skyhawks will play the Mavericks on Fri., Dec. 8 at 5:30p.m. and the Mountaineers on Sat., Dec. 9 starting at 5:30p.m.
  • Eight of the nine next games will be played at home.
  • The Skyhawks went 1-1 against Colorado Mesa last year falling on the road 54-58, before taking the win 77-50 in Whalen. The Mavericks are the second in the league for scoring defense (49.8 per game). 
  • Fort Lewis swept Western State last year (56-39, 67-36).
  • The Skyhawks fall within the top five in the RMAC for scoring (second, 72.6 points per game), scoring defense (third, 54.6 points allowed per game), scoring margin (third, +18.0), free throw percent (fifth, .753), field goal percent (fifth, .419), blocked shots (second, 3.7 blocks per game) and assists (second, 19.0 assists per game).
  • Freshman Vivian Gray is ranked in the top 10 in the RMAC in scoring (fourth, 15.4 points per game), rebounds (fourth, 8.9 per game), assists (fifth, 4.1), and blocked shots (first, 1.8).
  • Gray has been named RMAC Defensive Player of the Week two weeks in a row.
  • Senior Astrea Reed is eighth in the RMAC in free throw pct. (.826).
  • Briana Clah is third in the league in assists to turnover ratio with 2.6 mark.  She has dished out 26 assists and committed only 10 turnovers. Her 3.7 dimes per game are the eighth most in the RMAC.
  • Sophomore Kayla Herrera has pulled down 6.6 rebounds per game, the tenth most in the league this season.  She is also averaging 2.0 steals per game, just 1.0 steals behind the league leader. Her 25 assists and 17 turnovers land her 10th in the league with a 1.5 assist to turnover ratio.
  • The first 1,300 fans at Friday's games will receive free t-shirts for the Third Annual White Out game.  One lucky fan will be selected for a chance to a win free 2018 Ford Escape during the men's halftime Basketball Challenge Contest.
