DURANGO, Colo. – April 2, 2017 –
Brooke Galle recorded her fourth career hat trick and first of the season Sunday afternoon while teammate
Nikki Fry posted a career high four points with two goals and two assists to lead the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team to a 12-10 win. The Skyhawks defeated Westminster College at Ray Dennison Memorial Field for their third win of the season and third win of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Skyhawks never trailed in the game but went into halftime tied at 7-7. Galle, Fry and
Ryann Pierce (two goals) scored the first four goals for FLC before WC netted two in a row. Galle found the back of the net for the second time in the half at 13:30, followed by
Taylor Cabrera's first of two goals in the game.
Shelby Madden gave FLC a 7-5 lead with 2:42 left in the first half before WC struck twice to knot the game at seven.
The Skyhawks outscored WC 5-3 in the second half. Cabera,
Delaney Benson scored the first three goals of the half to increase the Skyhawks lead to 10-7. Madison Ingman of WC scored twice to cut into FLC's lead, 10-9, before Galle recorded a hat trick with 4:24 left in regulation. The Griffins last goal of the game came with 3:01 remaining. Fry closed out the game with her second goal with 57 ticks left in regulation.
Twenty of Fort Lewis' 33 shot attempts came in the first half. Westminster won 16 of the 24 draw controls but FLC converted 24-of-26 clear attempts.
Pierce led both teams with eight shot attempts (all on goal). She added a team high four draw controls.
Alyssa Spencer earned her second win in goal, making eight saves.
The Skyhawks will play host to Rockhurst on April 4 at 3 p.m.
