Lacrosse Advances to RMAC Semifinal Round

DENVER – May 4, 2017 – The No. 4 seed Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team won their second playoff game in program history Thursday afternoon after defeating No. 5 seed Westminster College in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament, 12-9, at Regis University in Denver.
 
The Skyhawks scored eight of their 12 goals in the second half.  FLC took a 1-0 lead eight minutes in to the half from Taylor Cabrera's goal.  WC tied the game at 17:57 but the Skyhawks regained the lead, 2-1, after Rebecca Miller found the back of the net. 
 
WC took their first and only lead of the game at 15:12 after scoring two goals within 61 seconds.  Sammy Delli tied the game at 3-3 with just 20 seconds left in the first half.
 
The second half featured four ties but FLC outscored WC, 4-1, in an eight minute span to take a 10-7 lead they would not relinquish.
 
Delaney Benson scored the game-winning goal with 9:20 left in regulation.
 
Cabrera led FLC with three goals, seven shots and five shots on goal.  Ryann Pierce, Nikki Fry and Delli added two goals each.  Both of Pierce's and Fry's goals were scored in the second half.  Kelli Warmouth added a team high two assists.
 
Cabrera tallied a game high five ground balls.
 
Alyssa Spencer made 11 saves after playing all 60 minutes between the posts.
 
FLC outshot the Griffins, 31-24, and picked up 31 ground balls to WC's 21 ground balls.  The Griffins finished the game winning 19 of the 23 draw controls.
 
Fort Lewis will face No. 2 Lindenwood University on Friday at 4 p.m.
