Bramley Wins UCCS Rust Buster Open

COLORADO SPRINGS – September 1, 2017 – Becca Bramley led all 57 runners Friday evening to win the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Rust Buster 5K race in Colorado Springs, Colo.  Bramley crossed the finish line in 18:49.5.
 
Both Skyhawks men's and women's teams placed second in the season opening race.  The FLC women's team recorded 44 points, behind UCCS' 28 points.  The men's team featured five runners in the top 20.  FLC was second overall with 44 points.  UCCS won the men's race with 25 points.
 
Erin Renner finished fifth overall for FLC in a time of 19:02.6.  Emily Bryant (19:48, 11th place), Emily White (20:03, 16th place) and Carly Wilborn (20:13, 21st place) rounded out the Skyhawks top five.
 
"Becca had a great start to the season," said head coach Joshua Coon.  "She put in the work this summer and is aiming for November. Erin also had an excellent summer and will be right behind her. Erin, Emily, Carly, and Amber Johnson all have the potential to run with top runners in this conference."
 
Hosava Kretzmann and Shawvan Levi led the men's team, finishing second and third overall in the men's 8K race, recording times of 25:56.6 and 26:19, respectively.
 
Sylas Schutt placed 10th with a time of 27:28, followed by Preston Charlie (27:52, 14th) and Bismarck Kipkilach (28:20, 19th place).
 
"Hosava and Shawvan had a strong start and both know if they still have a lot more in the tank," said Coon. "Again they're aiming for November.  This was a solid early season start for the men."
 
"Overall, this was a successful day and will look to build on in the coming weeks," said Coon.
 
The Skyhawks next meet is Sept. 16 at University of California-Riverside.
