Football Heads to No. 11 Colorado Mesa

9/21/2017 3:01:00 PM

Fort Lewis College will begin a three-game road trip this Saturday when they travel to No. 11 Colorado Mesa University.  The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m., marking the Skyhawks only night game of the regular season.

FLC enters the game with a 1-2 overall and conference record.  CMU is ranked No. 11 in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches poll.  The Mavericks are the only undefeated team in the conference.

The Skyhawks defense is one of the best in the conference.  FLC is third in rushing defense (136.7 yards per game), fourth in scoring defense (24.0 points allowed per game), and fifth in total defense (412.3 yards allowed per game).

FLC also leads the league in interceptions, recording five interceptions in three games, including two picks for touchdowns.

The Skyhawks have committed only one turnover (fumble), while forcing seven turnovers (five interceptions, two fumbles).  The Skyhawks +6 turnover margin is tops in the league.

Freshman Ben Raybon has converted 5-of-6 field goals, the most made by any kicker in the league.  His 83.3 field goal percentage is also tops in the RMAC.

Linebacker Darrian Stickney has recorded 26 tackles this season, the fifth most in the RMAC.  Thirteen of his tackles have been solo stops.

Junior quarterback Bo Coleman has completed 25-of-60 passes for 314 yards and one touchdown.  He is the only quarterback in the league to attempt at least 10 passes and not throw an interception.

FLC's clock management is No. 1 in the RMAC, possessing the ball an average of 34:22 minutes per game, nearly three minutes longer than the next opponent.

Tyler Telphy (125) and PJ Hall (119) each eclipsed 100 rushing yards against the Grizzlies.  Telphy's 125 yards are the most by any Skyhawk this year.  His longest run of the day - 57 yards - was also a season high.

Hall has 11 career games rushing for more than 100 yards.

Mason Hatton caught a season high six passes for 78 yards against ASU.  Parker Strahler's catch for 26 yards was the longest reception this season.

Max Peets, last week's RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week, posted a season long punt of 56 yards.

Dominic Cochrane and Stickney tallied 10 tackles each against the Grizzlies, the most tackles in game by Skyhawk this season.

Senior running back PJ Hall has 2,884 rushing yards on 597 carries (4.8 yards per carry), and 13 rushing touchdowns.  He is 682 yards shy of tying the all-time rushing record, held by Joe Moore (3,566 yards).

Hall is the fourth running back in school history to rack up at least 1,000 yards in a season.  He carried the ball 230 times for 1,128 yards in 2015, the third most by any FLC back (Scott Stamper-1,206 yards, 1982 and Joe Moore-1,058 yards, 2000).   Drake Griffin set the single season rushing record in 2016 with 1,309 yards.
