BOLIVAR, Mo. – September 8, 2017 – After dropping the first match of the day in five sets to Oklahoma Baptist University, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team responded with a 3-0 win over Southwest Baptist University on Friday at the Southwest Baptist University Invitational in Bolivar, Mo.
Friday's split moves the Skyhawks to 4-2 on the season.
FLC swept SBU by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-13.
Laine Waters and
Maddie LeBlanc led FLC's offense with an astounding .800 and .700 hitting mark, respectively. Waters tallied nine kills on 10 attempts ahead of LeBlanc's eight kills on nine attempts. LeBlanc added four blocks, two digs and two aces.
Bailey Longacre chipped in seven kills and a team high six blocks.
Kendra Swackenberg notched 25 set assists and eight digs.
Hannah Martinez and
Megan Graefe matched Swackenberg with a team high eight digs.
FLC hit .282 at the netted and blocked eight attempts. The Skyhawks held SBU to a .033 hitting percentage.
In Friday's opening match, FLC won the first set, 25-21 but dropped set two in overtime, 27-25. Trailing 2-1, FLC knotted the match at 2-2 with a 25-19 set win in the fourth, but fell in the deciding match, 15-7.
LeBlanc and Longacre posted double digit kills. LeBlanc finished with 12 kills and Longacre added 11.
Graefe led the Skyhawks defense with 20 digs, followed by Martinez' and
Elise Hill's 12 digs.
Swackenberg tallied 42 of FLC's 51 set assists.
The Skyhawks will face Drury Saturday at 8 a.m. and Emporia State University at 2 p.m.
