No. 13 Skyhawks Start Four Game Road Trip

  • The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will take the road to play two of their four road games against Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines.
  • Friday's game will start at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's tip-off will be at 3:30 p.m.
  • Black Hills is sixth in the RMAC standings with a 5-4 record and 11-4 overall.
  • South Dakota Mines is placed eighth in the RMAC standings with a 5-4 record and 10-5 overall.
  • Fort Lewis College moved up one spot to No. 13 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II National poll.  
  • FLC has been ranked in all eight WBCA polls this season.  The highest the Skyhawks have ever been nationally rank was No. 2 (2008-09 season).  Their highest ranking this season is No. 11 (Nov. 28, 2017); No. 13 is their second highest ranking.
  • Fort Lewis holds a current record of 15-1 and 9-1 in the RMAC.   The Skyhawks, who are undefeated at home this season at 11-0, own the current longest winning streak in the RMAC (10 games).
  • The Skyhawks fall within the top two in the RMAC in multiple categories, including leading the league in scoring offense (72.0) and field goal percentage defense (32.9). FLC is second in the league in assists (283), assists per game (17.7), blocked shots (63), blocked shots per game (3.9), free throw attempts (312), made free throws (242), scoring margin (18.5) and scoring defense (53.5).
  • Freshman Vivian Gray leads the league in points per game (17.5), field goals made (100), blocked shots (32) and blocked shots per game (2.1). She falls in the top ten of field goal attempts (ninth, 208), steals (fourth, 31), steals per game (fourth, 2.1), field goal percentage (ninth, 48.2), free throw percentage (eighth, 82.6) and made free throws (eighth, 57).
  • Senior Astrea Reed is third in the RMAC in free throw percent (.865).
  • Briana Clah owns a league leading 3.1 assists-to-turnover ratio, while ranking seventh in assists (61) and assists per game (3.8).
  • Sophomore Kayla Herrera is averaging 2.1 steals per game. Her 1.78 assists-to-turnover ratio is the sixth best in the RMAC.
  • The Skyhawks have earned the RMAC Player of the Week award seven times this season:
    Jan. 8, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive), Jan. 1, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive & Defensive), Dec. 11, 2017 – Astrea Reed (Offensive); Dec. 4, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive); Nov. 27, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive) and Nov. 13, 2017 – Kayla Herrera (Defensive).
  • The Skyhawks will finish their four game road trip next weekend against Regis on Jan. 19 and Chadron State on Jan. 20.
