Dixie State Holds Off Women’s Soccer

ST GEORGE, Utah – Despite firing four shots on goal, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team wasn't able to get one past Nicole Rahman as Dixie State University scored three goals in taking the 3-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Sunday afternoon.

Dixie State (8-5, 4-5 RMAC) held a 20-5 advantage on shots, but just a 7-4 edge on goal. The TrailBlazers held a 6-3 edge on corner kicks and FLC (4-8-1, 3-6 RMAC) committed eight fouls to six for Dixie State.

The game got going right away for the TrailBlazers as they scored just over eight minutes in to take the 1-0 lead. The Skyhawks responded to get a few corner kick chances, but couldn't get a shot off. Dixie State tallied a few more shots before the end of the first half and then Addie DiMarco had a strong push just over 38 minutes in before her shot was saved to leave the game 1-0 in favor of Dixie State at halftime.

FLC generated a strong chance to begin the second half when Britney Johnson triggered a shot on net, but Rahman made the stop. Just under two minutes after that chance, Dixie State came charging back and took a 2-0 lead burying a goal that hit some defenders on the way in at the 48:09 mark.

The TrailBlazers didn't let up, as they made another rush at the 68:39 mark and it resulted in the third goal of the game for a 3-0 advantage.
The Skyhawks tried to cut into the deficit, getting a shot on goal by Courtney Wamboldt and Emma Patron, but both were saved. Skylar Byrnes had one last look with just under eight minutes to play, but her shot was blocked to keep the score at 3-0.

Britt Blomso started in net and went the first 71:53 and made a pair of saves. Kaylee Mickens also logged 18:07 and recorded two saves.

Whitney Johns led Dixie State with six shots on goal and a pair of goals. Kesley Cook added three shots. In goal, Rahman played all 90 minutes and tallied four saves.

FLC will remain on the road this coming week when they travel to Gunnison on Friday to face Western State Colorado University beginning at 3 p.m. They will close the road swing on Sunday in Grand Junction versus Colorado Mesa starting at 1 p.m.
