PUEBLO, Colo. – Raul Pescador scored two goals in the span of five minutes to help lead the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over CSU-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday.
FLC (9-6-2, 7-6-1 RMAC) held a 10-8 advantage on shots, while CSU-Pueblo (5-11-2, 2-10-2 RMAC) held a 7-6 edge on goal. CSU-Pueblo had a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks, while FLC was whistled for 14 fouls to four for the ThunderWolves.
Off a pair of Ty Lang corner kicks, the first one Ryan Lee handled and fired a shot just over six minutes in that Tyler Harvey saved. Lee then just missed a few minutes later hitting the shot wide. Landon Gibson fired a shot on net just over 20 minutes in that was saved.
The Skyhawks continued to dominate play, getting a few more shots with Bar Hazut launching one that was saved and another that just missed. Approaching the final minutes of the half, Pescador was able to get loose, collecting a rebound and knocking home his second goal of the season at the 39:49 mark for the 1-0 lead.
It wouldn't take long for Pescador to find the back of the net for a second time when Hazut who sent a cross from the right side of the box to a waiting Pescador who knocked it home at the 44:41 mark to push FLC to a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Skyhawks dominated the first half outshooting CSU-Pueblo 7-0.
The ThunderWolves came out on the attack in the second half, getting their first shot on goal just over 50 minutes in that was saved by Ventura Salcido. Following a pair of saves by Salcido, Santiago Tinta got the ThunderWolves on the board at the 66:46 mark when he collected a shot that hit the crossbar and sent it home leaving FLC with the 2-1 lead.
The teams then exchanged fouls and not many shots, as a header shot by CSU-Pueblo was saved with just under six minutes to play and then Hazut attempted the final shot of the game with three minutes to play that went high leaving FLC with the 2-1 victory.
Hazut led the way with four shots, two on goal. Lee and Pescador added two shots apiece. Salcido went all 90 minutes in goal and recorded six saves.
Tinta led CSU-Pueblo with four shots, all ending up on goal. In net, Harvey played all 90 minutes and came away with four saves.
FLC ended up just missing out on the final RMAC Tournament spot by two points behind MSU Denver.
It was the final game as Skyhawks for Lucas Matelich, Coleman Kane, Nicolas Perez, Steen Shober and Raul Pescador.
