Women’s Basketball Begins Four Game Road Trip

  • The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will take the road to play two road games this weekend
  • The Skyhawks will tip off at 5:30 p.m. against Western State on Friday, and Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
  • Fort Lewis holds a current record of 18-5 and 12-5 in the RMAC.
  • The Mountaineers are 4-13 in the RMAC and 7-16 overall, and are tied for second with MSU-Denver and Colorado School of Mines.
  • The Mavericks are currently eighth in the conference with a 10-7 record and 16-7 overall record.
  • FLC has been ranked in nine WBCA polls this season.  The highest the Skyhawks have ever been nationally rank was No. 2 (2008-09 season).  Their highest ranking this season is No. 11 (Nov. 28, 2017).
  • The Skyhawks fall within the top two in the RMAC in multiple categories, including leading the league in scoring offense (70), field goal percentage defense (.340) and assists (16.3). FLC is second in the league in scoring margin (+14.9), rebounding offense (40.7) and offensive rebound percentage (.345).
  • Freshman Vivian Gray leads the league in points per game (18.5) and field goals made (154) and blocked shots (44) and blocked shots per game (2.0). She falls in the top 10 of rebounds (seventh, 168), steals (fourth, 41), steals per game (fourth, 1.9), free throw percentage (fifth, 82.2) and made free throws (sixth, 79).
  • Sophomore Kayla Herrera is averaging 2.0 steals per game putting her third in the RMAC. Her 72 assists put her 10th in the league and her 1.6 assists-to-turnover ratio is the sixth best in the RMAC.
  • Senior Astrea Reed is ninth in the RMAC for scoring with 313 points.
  • The Skyhawks have earned the RMAC Player of the Week award nine times this season:
    Jan. 22, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive & Defensive), Jan. 8, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive), Jan. 1, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive & Defensive), Dec. 11, 2017 – Astrea Reed (Offensive); Dec. 4, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive); Nov. 27, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive) and Nov. 13, 2017 – Kayla Herrera (Defensive).
  • Eight Fort Lewis College women's basketball student-athletes earned 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic honors. Sophomore guard Kayla Herrera (3.75 GPA, Public Health), senior guard Shelby Patterson (4.00 GPA, Accounting) and senior forward Natalie Stilwell (4.00 GPA, Fountain Hills, Ariz.) were voted to the RMAC All-Academic First Team.  Earning Honor Roll accolades are senior forward Kelsey Wainright (3.92 GPA, Marketing), redshirt-freshman forward Jordan Carter (3.84 GPA), redshirt-freshman Olivia Gray (3.66 GPA, Business Administration), junior forward Alyssa Yocky (3.93 GPA, Biology), and sophomore guard Kaitlyn Romero (3.43 GPA, Accounting).
  • The Skyhawks will be on the road again next weekend as they take on Colorado Mines Friday, Feb.16 at 5 p.m. and Adams State Saturday on Feb.17 at 5:30 p.m.
