Men’s Soccer Tallies 4-0 Shutout Win Over Cougars as Lang Scores Two

DURANGO, Colo. – Backed by a season-high 34 shots, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team kept the pressure on Colorado Christian University all game on their way to claiming the 4-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Sunday at Dirks Field.

Throughout the game, FLC (5-0-2, 3-0-1 RMAC) was generating shots, firing off 20 in the first half and 14 more in the second half. Of the 34 total shots, 17 landed on net. They limited Colorado Christian (0-7, 0-3 RMAC) to just six shots, with two being on goal. FLC also held a 10-2 edge on corner kicks. The game turned physical over the final half of the game with Colorado Christian committing 23 fouls to 12 for FLC. There were also five yellow cards, four called on the Cougars.

Quick starts have been typical of the Skyhawks over the past few games and Sunday was no different. Just over two minutes in, Bar Hazut got behind the defense after a great lead pass from Lucas Matelich and chipped the shot right over the goalie to move FLC to a 1-0 lead. It was Hazut's fifth goal of the season.

The offensive attack continued with a few shots hitting the posts and several corner kicks, but it remained 1-0 until nearly midway through the first half. Hakeem Rabiu rifled a shot from the right side of the box, that the keeper saved, but as he scrambled to collect, Ty Lang jumped on the loose ball and sent it home to move the lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute. It was Lang's second goal of the season.

Following another great couple of looks, Rabiu this time got it past the goalie when Steen Shober chipped a nice pass into the box and Rabiu made a move and shot it past the keeper to make it 3-0 in the 64th minute. It was Rabiu's second goal of the season.

Roughly 10 minutes later, Lang found the net again when he let loose a deep shot from about 25 yards out that sailed over the outstretched fingers of the goalie for a 4-0 FLC lead at the 73rd minute. Nicolas Perez help setup Lang's third goal of the season and second of the game.

Ten players recorded at least a shot for FLC with Lang leading the way with eight. Rabiu added six, Hazut, and Shober tallied four, Landon Gibson with three and two each from Max Fuentes Carrera, Coleman Kane, Ryan Lee and Raul Pescador. Ventura Salcido faced six shots, with two on goal as he made both saves.

FLC will now hit the road this coming week when they will venture to Utah to face Dixie State on Friday starting at 5 p.m. and then on Sunday against Westminster at noon.
