Box Score DENVER, Colorado — The No. 6 seed Fort Lewis College men's soccer team pushed No. 2 seed Regis University to the brink Sunday as regulation time was not enough to decide the RMAC Tournament semi-finals matchup.

Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, who earned their spot in the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over No. 3 seed Colorado Mesa University, they were unable to deliver a second high-seed knockout as the Rangers escaped with a 2-1 overtime victory.

"I'm proud of the guys' effort they showed not just today but all season," said Fort Lewis head men's soccer coach, David Oberholtzer. "I thought we had some good moments, especially in the first half, and then I think some fatigue started to set in and we just weren't able to create enough good chances going forward."

Fort Lewis opened the game's scoring in the 28th minute when redshirt sophomore Loic Jean-Baptiste connected on his team-high eighth goal of the season and second of the RMAC Tournament off a feed from redshirt junior forward Hakeem Rabiu.

The goal from Jean-Baptiste, who was named a First-Team All-RMAC player earlier in the week, would send the Skyhawks (11-5-4 overall, 8-4-2 RMAC) into the halftime break with a 1-0 advantage.

Regis (11-6-2 overall, 9-4-1 RMAC) cranked up the pressure in the second half, finishing with a 9-2 shot advantage over the final 45 minutes, and netting the equalizer at the 62:16 mark when Ben Shepherd capitalized on a free kick opportunity just outside the goal box.

The score remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the 4:31 mark of the first overtime when the Rangers scored the game-winner, courtesy of a throw-in that landed in the Skyhawks' box and was put home by Parker Klein.

"Regis was pushing for the equalizer and was able to capitalize on the foul. They started getting a little more momentum throughout the game and that goal kind of energized them and we were already starting to fatigue prior to that moment," Oberholtzer said. "It gave them a boost that carried on over into the overtime."

As a team, the Skyhawks finished with three shots on goal to the Rangers' nine, with Rabiu, Jean-Baptiste and junior forward Ryan Lee providing the shots on net.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Peter Byrne ended his comeback season with seven saves on nine chances, finishing 2019 with a 84% save percentage, 0.95 goals against average and 104 total saves across 20 games played.

The Skyhawks will lose the talented quartet of senior defensemen Marshall Metzger and Ty Lang, and redshirt juniors in Max Fuentes Carrera and Rabiu to graduation this spring. But with a roster that includes nine returners from Saturday's starting lineup, Oberholtzer said the team is optimistic about what they can accomplish heading into 2020.

"We're obviously going to miss the four seniors who are moving on, but we do have a really good core of guys returning and a good foundation to build off of," Oberholtzer said. "The biggest thing we were concerned about at the beginning of the year was all the new faces and what the chemistry was going to be like. All year long, it's been a really tight-knit, hard-working group. Having a lot of core pieces returning next year is a bright spot to look forward to."
