Wienk Tallies 11 Saves Against Rockhurst

AZTEC, N.M. – In the home opener for the Fort Lewis College lacrosse team, the Skyhawks made the trek south to play in Aztec at the Tiger Sports Complex and battled a tough opponent in Rockhurst. The Hawks used scoring runs of six and twelve goals to take the 18-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Monday afternoon.

Mia White started the game strong for FLC (0-2, 0-1 RMAC) as she scored just over two minutes in to give the Skyhawks the 1-0 lead. After that, Rockhurst (5-4, 2-0 RMAC) began to take control tallying the next six goals to take a 6-1 lead with 19 minutes to go before halftime.

Abby Escandon turned in a nice individual effort to break the scoring run when she got loose off the left side of the circle and buried the shot to trim the deficit to 6-2.

The Hawks caught fire the remainder of the half scoring the final eight goals to take a 14-2 lead into the break.

FLC played tough defense in the second half and limited Rockhurst to just four goals to take the 18-2 victory.

Daris Wienk made some big saves in net for FLC as she faced 29 shots and came up with 11 saves in playing all 60 minutes. White led the way with three shots, Delaney Benson and Aitana Rivera each picked up three groundballs and Benson caused two turnovers.

Marianna Anderson and Logan Derosia paced Rockhurst with five goals apiece. Derosia collected six groundballs and Jaylin Johnson caused four turnovers. In net, Molly Dunham started and picked up the win after allowing two goals and making two saves. Emily Duff played the second half and turned away the two shots she faced.

FLC will remain at home this coming Thursday when they will face #5 Lindenwood starting at 1:30 p.m. The game will once again take place in Aztec at the Tiger Sports Complex.
