Skyhawks wrap up busy weekend with 3-0 road loss to UT Permian Basin

ODESSA, Texas — The Fort Lewis College volleyball team wrapped up a busy first weekend of the 2019 on Sunday, falling 25-22, 25-21 and 25-17 on the road against a tough University of Texas-Permian Basin team.

Sunday marked the fifth match in five days for the Skyhawks (2-3 overall), who led 15-13 midway through the first set before the undefeated Falcons (4-0) scored eight of the next nine points to take the first set, 25-22.

Fort Lewis continued its solid play to begin the season on the defensive side of the net, finishing with 51 digs and four total blocks.

Three players finished with double-digit dig totals, led by freshman libero Kamryn Lopez with 13 digs. Junior outside hitters Alexa Treguboff and Chandler Karr followed with 12 digs and 11 digs, respectively.

Karr, who was named to the Kathleen Brasfield ASU Invitational All-Tournament team over the weekend, would also lead the Skyhawks on offense with eight kills on 29 total attacks.

Senior middle blocker Bailey Longacre added six kills and a team-high two solo blocks, while fellow senior Ohiyah Shirley chipped in four kills to pace the offense.

Redshirt freshman Courtney Bayles finished Sunday with 19 assists, as well as a pair of kills and eight digs from the setter position.

Fort Lewis will now return home and prepare to host the three-day Skyhawks Volleyball Tournament, set to get underway at 7 p.m. Thursday against Western New Mexico University.
