RMAC RELEASE

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado —
On Thursday, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released the women's lacrosse RMAC All-Academic teams, with a total of seven Fort Lewis College student-athletes earning recognition.

Sophomore midfielder Maren Clark and senior attacker Delaney Benson was voted First-Team All-Academic, while the Skyhawks had five players in juniors Abby Escandon and Ann Nelson, and sophomores Kylee Cosse, Jillian Byron and Kenna Melvin all earn Honor Roll.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters. Those that met the requirements but were not voted onto First Team automatically qualify for the Honor Roll.

Benson was a four-year starter for the Skyhawks and entered the spring semester with a 3.58 accumulative GPA as an Exercise Physiology major. Through two games, Benson was second on the team with five goals on just nine total shots. She finishes her career at FLC with 46 goals and 57 total points.

Clark had gotten off to a tremendous start through the Skyhawks' first two games of 2020, scoring three goals and adding two assists from the midfield. She also ranked second on the team with six draw controls. Clark, a native of Castle Pines, Colorado, entered the spring with a spotless 4.0 accumulative GPA as Business Administration major.

Escandon, an attacker out of Meridian, Idaho, earned Honor Roll honors for the second consecutive season, entering the spring with an accumulative GPA of 3.66 as a Sport Administration major. Escandon led all Skyhawks with seven assists — the third most in the RMAC — and was second on the team with 11 total points through two games before the season was suspended.

Nelson also represented the Skyhawks for the second straight season on the honor roll as the native of Dundee, Oregon owns a 3.71 accumulative GPA as a Public Health major. Nelson appeared in both games for the Skyhawks in 2020, scoring a goal and adding an assist, three ground balls and three draw controls.

Cosse, the hometown defenseman from Durango High School, made appearances in both games for FLC before the season was suspended. She earned her first All-Academic Honor Roll nod after entering the spring with a 3.91 accumulative GPA as a Biology major.

Byron started both games for the Skyhawks and is an attacker/midfielder out of Eagle, Colorado. She started all eight games for FLC in 2019, as well, finishing the year with six ground balls. Byron makes her first appearance on the All-Academic Honor Roll with a 3.97 accumulative GPA as a Sport Administration major.

As for Melvin, the midfielder out of Windham, New Hampshire appeared in each of the Skyhawks' two games in 2020, scoring one goal and recording two ground balls. She entered the spring semester with a 3.89 accumulative GPA as a Marketing major to earn her first All-Academic Honor Roll selection.
