Women's Soccer Edged by Orediggers 3-0

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 18 Colorado School of Mines in Friday afternoon Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Fort Lewis drops to 3-7-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the conference while Mines improves to 10-2-3 on the year and 7-1-1 in conference play.

The Orediggers play to an 18-7 advantage in shots, including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. Junior Madyson Barela accounted for two shots, one on goal, while five additional players picked up a shot. Sophomore Katlyn Rosenbaum picked up seven saves in 90 minutes of action at goalkeeper.

FLC saw an opportunity seven minutes into the match when Kinley Carter sent a header on goal, but a steady save kept the Skyhawks off the scoreboard. Mines countered in the 11th minute with a goal from Emma Peterson to go up 1-0. The visitors added another in the 15th minute when a misplayed ball by Rosenbaum found an empty net in front of Reese McDermott who buried her fifth goal of the season. Senior Avery Lewis added FLC's final shot on goal of the half in the 39th minute which was batted away by the opposing keeper.

Senior Katie Smith began the second half with a shot that went wide, and the Orediggers responded with a shot on goal that was intercepted by Rosenbaum. The visitors continued to apply offensive pressure and found another goal scoring opportunity in the 52nd minute. Elise Putnam of Mines controlled a ball into the box and sent a savvy shot to the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage. FLC continued to play hard through the closing minutes, but the lead would be too much to overcome as the game ended in a 3-0 final score.

Fort Lewis (3-7-2, 1-5-2 RMAC) remains home for a Sunday match with Regis University. First kick is set for 12:00 p.m. Sunday's contest will be Senior Day for this year's graduating class of Maddie Allen, Skylar Byrnes, Casey Flynn, Avery Lewis, Danielle Lium, Diana Sifuentes, Katie Smith, and Ashley Strader
