Skyhawks Drop a One Goal Contest to MSU Denver on Sunday

DENVER, Colo. – A goal in the 57th minute was the difference as the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to MSU Denver on Sunday. Fort Lewis drops to 4-9-2 overall and 2-7-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while MSU Denver improves to 9-5-2 on the year and 6-5-0 in conference play.

MSU Denver had 18 shots compared to eight for Fort Lewis. Eight of MSU Denver's attempts were on goal versus three for Fort Lewis. Senior Katie Smith and junior Madyson Barela each had two shots with one of Smith's being on goal. Freshman Danielle Gonzales accounted for one of the team's shots on goal with sophomore Elizabeth David earning the third. Sophomore Katlyn Rosenbaum had seven saves on the day, starting in her sixth game of the season.

Rosenbaum earned her first save of the game in the 8th minute to keep things scoreless. Gonzales rattled off a shot on goal in the 24th minute, the team's first of the match. Smith put up a shot in the 36th minute, but another save by the opposing keeper held the game at zeros. The Roadrunners had two more shots on to close out the first half, each of which were halted by Rosenbaum.

MSU Denver's golden opportunity came in the 57th minute with Katy Coats placed a shot top left, beyond the reach of Rosenbaum for the 1-0 edge. The Roadrunners had several additional opportunities down the stretch, each denied by the sophomore keeper, but the FLC offense couldn't convert as the home squad earned the 1-0 shutout.

Fort Lewis (4-9-2, 2-7-2 RMAC) concludes the regular season on Wednesday, November 3 at Western Colorado University for a 3:00 p.m. start.
