FLC Volleyball Falls to No. 1 MSU Denver to Wrap Up Home Slate

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team welcomed a formidable foe to Whalen Gymnasium on Saturday evening, taking on the No. 1 MSU Denver Roadrunners in the final home match of the season. Despite commendable effort by the Skyhawks, the team tell in three sets (17-25, 20-25, 18-25).

The match served as senior night for the Skyahwks as the team honored the group of Makena Ahuna, Cameron Callahan, Avynn La Rose, and Madi Nash.

Fort Lewis moves to 6-14 overall and 6-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while MSU Denver improves to 22-2 on the year and 16-0 in the league, extending the win streak to 20.

The Roadrunners his .282 for the match compared to .113 for the Skyhawks. The freshman duo of Natalia Lambos and Alexis Hobie paced the team with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Lambos was the team's leader in digs with 11, followed by junior Kamryn Lopez's 10 dig outing. Junior Payton Harmann had 21 assists on the night.

Set One (17-25)
FLC got out to a hot start in the opening set, going up 6-2 after an attacking error. The Roadrunners came back to take a 12-10 lead, but the Skyhawks reclaimed the advantage after a kill from Lambos. It was back-and-forth from there, but a late push by the visitors saw the set end in 25-17 fashion.

Set Two (20-25)
MSU Denver got ahead early before a block from senior Cameron Callahan and Lambos tied it up at 7-7. The Roadrunners got ahead again behind a 9-1 scoring run to take a commanding 17-9 lead. Callahan got up on a solo stuff to see the score at 19-13. The Skyhawks benefited from a pair of attacking errors to keep the set going but an eventual kill closed it out at 25-20.

Set Three (18-25)
FLC has another lead to begin the third after a Hobie kill had the team up 5-3. The lead stayed with the Skyhawks with a four-point run taking the score to 9-6. MSU Denver had a pair of scoring runs to go up 21-13 before a service error provided an FLC side out. FLC battled off three match points with kills from Hobie and Lambos, but a kill on the outside closed it out at 25-18.

Up Next
Fort Lewis (6-14, 6-10 RMAC) will have its final regular season road trip next week with a Friday match at Adams State for a 7:00 p.m. start, followed by a Saturday slate with N.M. Highlands at 3:00 p.m.
