Tebo late tally gives Skyhawks 1-0 victory over Westminster College

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team got its highly anticipated 2021 spring season underway Friday, capitalizing on a late goal from sophomore defenseman Kanon Tebo to snag a 1-0 neutral site victory over Westminster College.

Tebo's goal in the 89th minute was the first of his career for the defenseman out of Belgrade, Montana, coming off a rebound opportunity created by an initial shot from redshirt junior Loic Jean-Baptiste.

As a team, Fort Lewis (1-0 overall) finished with an 8-6 shot advantage over Westminster College (0-1 overall), the team picked tied for fourth with the Skyhawks in the RMAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.

In net, Fort Lewis deployed both its goalkeepers in redshirt junior Peter Byrne and sophomore Daniel Wilmore, each of whom made one save apiece to tag-team the FLC shutout.

Junior defenseman Denis Celik lead all Skyhawks with two shots on Friday, while senior midfielder Brantley Bice, Jean-Baptiste and Tebo each tallied one shot on goal.

Fort Lewis will look to build off Friday's victory when it completes the weekend with an 11 a.m. road matchup against Colorado Christian University on Sunday.
