Skyhawks conclude 2021 spring season with loss to #15 Orediggers in RMAC Tournament semi-finals

GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado — Making its second straight RMAC Tournament semi-final appearance, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team struggled to gain any traction early in a 5-1 loss to No. 15 ranked Colorado School of Mines on Friday at Maverick Park; host site for the 2021 RMAC Tournament semi-final and final rounds.

Friday's game script was an anomaly for the Skyhawks (5-3-1 overall), who entered the contest ranked second in the RMAC with a 0.63 goals against average, and had played the Orediggers (6-0-1 overall) to a pair of evenly match 1-0 decisions in the teams' previous two matchups during the regular season.

Colorado School of Mines finished with a 13-4 shots advantage, 7-2 in shots on goal, with nine of its shots coming in the first half as it built a 4-0 lead at the break.

The Skyhawks got on the scoreboard in the 68th minute when senior forward Ryan Lee finished off a feed from redshirt junior Loic Jean-Baptiste. The duo recorded the lone shots on goal for the Skyhawks in the contest.

Friday's goal was the first of the spring for Lee, a two-time All-RMAC selection during his four seasons in Durango. He'll graduate from FLC with 17 goals and 42 points in 65 career games played.

In net, redshirt junior goalkeeper Peter Byrne made two saves, giving him 29 saves on the spring in nine games.

Fort Lewis, which is only set to graduate the one senior player in Lee, will now turn its attention toward the 2021 fall season just four short months away.
