FLC Volleyball Falls in Three to the Rangers on the Road

DENVER, Colo. – Fort Lewis College volleyball fell in straight-sets (27-25, 25-12, 25-11) to (RV) Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Fort Lewis drops to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in RMAC play while Regis improves to 8-4 on the year and 3-1 in the league.

Fort Lewis was held to a .068 hitting percentage with Regis coming in at .283. The Rangers edged out the Skyhawks in digs, 49-37, and total blocks with nine to FLC's six. Senior Avynn La Rose led the team with six kills while freshman Alexis Hobie picked up five. Freshman Natalia Lambos filled the setter role, dishing out 21 helpers to go along with two kills and seven digs. Hobie led the team defensively with 11 digs.

"Our team came out fighting in the first set and showed a lot of composure. We showed that we can commit to a scouting report, and when we play our game we can be successful," said head coach Giedre Tarnauskaite.

Set One (25-27)
The teams traded points early in the set with Regis going up 10-8 via a quick kill out of the middle. The score knotted up at 11-11 behind a Regis misfire, and the Skyhawks found a 12-11 edge moment later after grinding through a long, defensive rally. The lead remained in the hands of the Skyhawks, bringing on a Regis timeout at 13-12. FLC continued to roll out of the break, putting away a pair before a thunderous Regis kill had the score at 15-13. Fort Lewis was the first to 20 with a cross-court kill from senior Cameron Callahan bringing things to 20-17.  Regis rolled to three straight, tying it up at 20-20 before a service error handed the lead back to the visitors. Fort Lewis countered with three in a row to reclaim a comfortable lead before back-to-back kills forced an FLC timeout, 23-22 advantage Skyhawks. The Rangers used the block for a kill to tie it at 23's and followed with a right side kills to see set point. The teams tied up at 24's and 25's, but the home team closed it out with a 27-25 win.

Set Two (12-25)
Regis roared out to a 7-2 lead, causing an early FLC timeout. The Skyhawks responded with two points before a slide kill gave Regis a four-point edge. The points continued to pour on before an off-speed kill slowed the roll. Regis maintained a sizeable lead through the middle part of the set, going up 19-11 with a roll shot out of the middle. Fort Lewis was forced to take its final timeout of the set with the score at 21-12. The right side continued to work for the Rangers with a kill down the line increasing the lead to 23-12. A hitting error closed out the set in favor of the Rangers, 25-12.

Set Three (11-25)
The Ranger saw an early lead to start the third with a hitting error moving the score to 6-3. The lead grew to 11-4 with a commanding Regis block out of the middle. A kill from Lambos returned the serve to the side of the Skyhawks after a scoring run had the score at 13-5. The momentum remained with the home team as a five-point run had the lead at 21-8. Hobie tacked on another kill down the stretch to move the score to 23-10, but the lead was too much to overcome with the Rangers claiming the set.

Final Thoughts from Coach Tarnauskaite
"Our biggest battle will be working on ways to score since our offense hasn't been where we hope it to be. As long as we can improve the little things on our side of the net we can be successful. We are looking forward to being back home in front of our home, and we are going to fight for a win."
