Skyhawks Women's Lacrosse Ends the Season With 20-4 Loss to No. 3 Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the opening game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference against No. 3 Regis University, 20-3. Fort Lewis ends the season with a 5-12 overall record while Regis improves to 18-0 overall.

Regis outshot Fort Lewis at a 32-8 clip, including a 25-8 advantage in shots on goal. Haley Dostie led the team with two goals while Ellie Martinez and Maren Clark chipped in one goal apiece. Rebecca Kiyokawa led the team with four groundballs and three caused turnovers. Averi Basso tallied five saves on the night.

The Rangers quickly got ahead 3-0 after five minutes of play before a caused turnover by Jojo Lutz gave the Skyhawks possession. Fort Lewis gave up a turnover to follow, and the teams went back at forth from there before a man-up goal by the Rangers made it 4-0 with 6:17 remaining. Regis won the following draw control, setting up for another goal to make it 5-0. The Rangers added two more goals to close out the quarter in a 7-0 score.

Fort Lewis got one back to open the second quarter when Maren Clark caught a pass from Liv Crawford at the top of the circle for her ninth goal of the season. Regis answered back with its eighth goal of the night, but the Skyhawks responded with a goal from Ellie Martinez, off an assist by Caprietta Abbadessa to make it 8-2. Fort Lewis used a Regis turnover with under four minutes to go which set up Haley Dostie for her 34th goal of the season off the pass from Rebecca Kiyokawa. Regis responded with a handful of goals to make the score 13-3 at the half.

The third quarter started with a goal for the Rangers before a caused turnover by Kiyokawa gave the Skyhawks possession. The Rangers picked up a caused turnover to follow which resulted in a goal to make it 15-3 with 10:54 to go. The home squad tallied four goals down the stretch to make it 19-3 after three quarters of play. The Rangers added their final goal of the outing at the 11:27 mark in the fourth quarter to see the score at 20-3. The score held into the final two minutes of the game before a Dostie goal closed out the game in a 20-4 score.

The game marked the end of the careers for the senior class of Jillian Byron, Maren Clark, Kylee Cosse, and Liv Crawford.
