DURANGO, Colo. – Fort Lewis football (1-7, 0-6 RMAC) is back at home on Ray Dennison Memorial Field this Saturday afternoon to host Adams State University (0-8, 0-6 RMAC) for the second-annual edition of the two programs' revitalized Clash for the Pass! rivalry series as well as its annual Nike N7 game, presented by SkyUte Resort & Casino and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

Nike N7
Since its creation in 2009, the Nike N7 Fund has awarded over $7.5 million in grants to 259 Native American and Aboriginal communities and organizations, reaching more than 500,000 youths. The N7 Fund supports organizations that provide sports and physical activity programming to youth in these communities. Fort Lewis College is honored to be one of just 11 institutions nationwide selected to participate in the games. At halftime, Fort Lewis will have performances on the field courtesy of Wanbli Ota, a registered student organization at Fort Lewis.

Clash for the Pass!
Fort Lewis and Adams State revived and rebranded their rivalry series. Dating back to 1966, the Clash for the Pass! series, formerly known as 'The Musket Game Series, ' began when the two athletic departments received the donation of a Springfield .45-70 military issue rifle, which would serve as the traveling trophy, from Mahlon "Butch" White, who was involved in the First National Bank in both Alamosa and Durango, in memory of William White. No contest was held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the series was paused before the 2021 season. Last year, the two teams revitalized the series with a new traveling trophy, dubbed the "Clash for the Pass!", in recognition of U.S. Highway 160 and Wolf Creek Pass, which connects the two towns. Fort Lewis won the inaugural contest, 27-17, last fall, but Adams State leads the overall series 37-18-1.

Gaining Ground
The Skyhawks are coming off a 24-14 loss on the road at Colorado Mesa University (4-4, 3-3 RMAC) as part of a six-game losing skid. Despite the unfavorable result, Fort Lewis has plenty to build on, falling in just a two-possession contest in which the Skyhawks won the turnover battle, converted on 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) third-downs, made its first fourth-down conversion of the season, and was only out-gained 346 yards to 222 yards. Jacob Morris threw for 106 yards and one touchdown, a six-yard connection to Solomon Latimer, who finished with a game-high 35 yards on four catches. FLC showed some trickery as well, utilizing a three-yard jump-pass from KB Broadus to link up with Michael Collins for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter as well. Defensively, Jake Penney was a force to be reckoned with, making a career-high 21 tackles, which stands as the second-most in program history and the second-most in DII this season.
