(RV) Skyhawks surrender late goal in RMAC Semifinal loss to No. 20 Mavericks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – A goal by No. 22 Colorado Mesa University in the 87th minute snapped the (RV) Fort Lewis College women's soccer shutout streak, knocking the Skyhawks out of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament in the semifinal round.

Fort Lewis saw its shutout streak of 987 minutes and 10 consecutive shutouts come to an end with the late goal against the Mavericks.

Colorado Mesa held a 12-10 lead in shots for the match and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The match was a physical display with 20 total fouls and four yellow cards awarded.

Senior Anna Tucker led the team with three shots, followed by junior Jenna Salazar with a pair. Three Skyhawks put a shot on target. Fifth year Danielle Gonzales, seniors Renee Junna and Dannon Yake, and juniors Amber Otts and Ann Spence played full time. Freshman goalkeeper Trinity Lujan collected four saves.

The Mavericks dominated play early in the first half with a pair of off target shots through 16 minutes. Tucker registered the team's first shot on goal in the 24th minute, an attempt that was saved bottom center for the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Defense dominated the next 20 minutes of play with just one more shot taken in the half.

Lujan picked up a save just 49 seconds into the second half with a great read to her left, followed by shots for both teams. The freshman was tested in the 72nd minute with chaos in front of goal, saving one shot and eventually clearing the ball away from a cluster of Colorado Mesa players.

The Mavericks found the game winner in the 87th minute after an intercepted pass from Fort Lewis found the foot of a Mesa forward. She passed it ahead to Olivia Bariao-Arce who buried her fourth goal of the season high-left. Fort Lewis attempted to find an equalizer in the final three minutes, putting one shot up, but the Mavericks held on to the 1-0 shutout on their home pitch.
