Volleyball sweeps Chap Classic, bests Bulldogs 3-1

Fort Lewis is 6-1 after winning five-straight to wrap up nonconference play

LUBBOCK, Texas – Skyhawks volleyball closed out its nonconference slate in style on Saturday, defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State in four sets to extend its win streak to five matches.

Fort Lewis hit .286 as a team while holding the Bulldogs to just .160. The Skyhawks also led in every major category, racking up eight aces, 54 assists, and 75 digs.

Senior Ella Butler continued her strong start with 16 kills on 27 swings (.519). Junior Jordan DeJesus added 12 kills (.300), while freshman Caroline Munson made a big impact on the right side with nine kills (.381). Freshman setter Arianna Reyna recorded her first career double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs, and sophomore libero Emery Pomroy anchored the back row with 24 digs—her fifth 20-dig match of the season.

The Skyhawks controlled the opening set with stout defense, posting 16 digs and holding SWOSU to .184 hitting. After a 6-1 run gave them an early cushion, Butler and DeJesus put the set away with back-to-back kills before a balanced attack closed it out, 25-15.

SWOSU responded in the second set, capitalizing on fewer errors and pulling ahead late. Despite Fort Lewis tying the score multiple times and fighting off two set points, the Bulldogs held on to even the match with a 25-23 win.

The third set swung back in Fort Lewis' favor after a 6-0 Bulldog run was erased by a steady Skyhawks rally. Key points from DeJesus, Munson, and Chloe Ruhl sparked momentum, and a block by Alina Nunez and Ellie Ames sealed a 25-19 victory.

Munson carried her rhythm into the fourth set with a thunderous overpass kill to spark a 5-2 lead. SWOSU kept it close, but the Skyhawks steadily widened the gap, highlighted by Butler's late kill that pushed the score to 20-15. Munson capped her standout match with her ninth kill to bring up match point before a Bulldog error ended things, 25-20.

With the win, Fort Lewis (6-1, 0-0 RMAC) heads into conference play next weekend, hosting Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines in Whalen Gym.
