Men’s soccer debuts at No. 10 in Super Region 4 on initial NCAA Power Index rankings

10/12/2026 4:54:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – The NCAA has released its first NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings of the year, outlining the potential field for the 2026 Division II Men's Soccer Championship, and the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team has debuted at No. 10 in Super Region 4.

Beginning in 2026-27, the NCAA will use NPI in determining the field for most championships. A version of NPI has been used for ice hockey since 2013 and was later adopted by Division III in 2024-25. NPI evaluates a team's season by considering both results and strength of schedule. Each contest produces a value based on whether the team won, lost, or tied and the opponent's NPI. NPI calculations update throughout the season as teams play additional contests and opponent NPI values change. A team's final NPI is not determined until the final games and rankings of the season are complete.

The Division II Men's Soccer Championship will remain at 40 teams, comprised of four super regions of ten teams each. Teams will still be seeded by super region. In Super Region 4, the Skyhawks contend with teams from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), Lone Star Conference (LSC), California Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA), PacWest Conference (PacWest), and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Each conference also boasts one automatic qualifier for the NCAA postseason, leaving five at-large bids.

Fort Lewis (7-4-2, 4-2 RMAC) debuts at No. 10 in Super Region 4 in the first NPI rankings of the season, as well as 33rd nationally in overall NPI. Additionally, Super Region 4 boasts the top-three NPI rankings in DII: No. 1 California State University Los Angeles, No. 2 Midwestern State University, and No. 3 Colorado State University Pueblo.

The Skyhawks remain second in the RMAC standings with a 4-2 record and 12 conference points with four matches remaining in the regular season. Fort Lewis has one road match on the docket this week, Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. against Colorado School of Mines (0-10-3, 0-4-1 RMAC) at Stermole Soccer Stadium in Golden, Colo.

Below are the top ten teams ranked in Super Region 4 by NPI. Final rankings and selections will be announced on Nov. 9.
