Paige Gumz was hired as FLC's Assistant Softball Coach in August of 2021.She comes to Durango after spending the 2021 season as a volunteer assistant with her alma mater, Fresno State University.
Gumz served as the Assistant Pitching Coach, Catching Coach and Base Running Coach for the Bulldogs, helping the team to the 2021 Mountain West Conference Championship.
Prior to the 2021 season, Gumz spent one season as an Assistant Coach at Fresno City College from 2019-2020. Her additional coaching stops include being the Head Softball Coach for the CenCal Fury Showcase (2018-2020) and the Head Softball Coach of Washington Union High School from 2018-19.
Gumz had a decorated playing career at Fresno State, playing every inning (1,406) of her four-year career as a catcher. She won the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year award in 2015 and 2016, earned All-Mountain West honors in 2013 and 2016, as well as Academic All-Mountain West in 2016.
Not only did Gumz shine as an individual talent, she also helped lead her Bulldogs to back-to-back Mountain West Championships in 2015 and 2016. Her collegiate success opened the door for a chance to be a player/coach overseas for the Vorarlberg Sharks in Australia from July to September in 2017.
Gumz earned her Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Journalism: Public Relations in 2016, while minoring in Criminology. She is currently working on her Master's degree in Education from National University.
Away from the softball diamond, Gumz is very active in the community as she has offered volunteer work to the Marjaree Mason Center, Catholic Charities, Fresno County 4-H, Poverello House, Big Heroes-Little Heroes, Tree Fresno and the Arne Nixon Library.
