Tom Donley

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Tom Donley, a goalkeeper on the Skyhawks' men's soccer team from 2002-06 and a 2005 NCAA Men's Soccer National Champion, registered his second consecutive season on the sidelines for Fort Lewis in the fall of 2024. However, he's assisted the program many times over the years since his graduation in 2006. As a volunteer assistant coach, Donley primarily assists in coaching the goalkeepers but also lends a hand in other day-to-day, practice, and game-day tasks.

Fort Lewis made its deepest run in the NCAA Tournament in 2024 since winning it all back in 2011, making an appearance in the NCAA National Quarterfinal against No. 15 CSU Pueblo (Dec. 7). The Skyhawks finished the regular season in third place before making a run to, and falling in, the RMAC Tournament Title match. Fort Lewis earned the sixth seed in the region for the NCAA Tournament and defeated No. 3 UCCS (Nov. 24) and (RV) Midwestern State (Dec. 1) on the road to reach the quarterfinals.

The Skyhawks were one of the best defensive teams in the country in 2024, boasting the sixth-most shutouts (11) and 25th-lowest team goals-against average (0.991). Sophomore and Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection Lucas Martin stood between the posts and boasted the second-best save percentage (84.4%), made the fifth-most saves (92), and tied for the fourth-most shutouts (10) in Division II.

In 2023, Donley guided Martin to a 12-4-4 overall record, a 73.4 percent save percentage, and a 1.25 goals-against-average across his 1,799 minutes. In addition, Martin currently ranks eighth all-time in career goals-against-average, fourth in ties (four), and ninth in winning percentage (60.0 percent), and set single-season records with the sixth-most minutes, seventh-most games (20), eighth-most saves (69), and tenth-best saves percentage.

During his defending the net, Donley recorded the third-best win percentage (83.3 percent), third-best goals-against-average (84.2 percent), third-most games in a single season (24, 2006), eighth-most wins (21), ninth-most shutouts (11) tenth-most minutes (2,565), and was tabbed a United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American in 2006.
