Maylinn Smith

Maylinn Smith joined the Fort Lewis College women's basketball program in May 2015.  She is in her third year as the Skyhawks top assistant coach in 2017-18.
 
Smith joined the Skyhawks program from Western State Colorado University in Gunnison where she served as the assistant coach since July 2014.  At WSCU, Smith assisted with daily operations of the basketball program, designed skill development programs for the student-athletes, designed and facilitated the strength and conditioning program, organized and created game preparation material, and taught the fundamental positions skills.
 
Off the court, Smith served as the liaison between the program and athletic administration on NCAA compliance and regulations, worked as the film coordinator, and organized fundraising opportunities.
 
A native of Mesa, Ariz., Smith received her undergraduate degree in Counseling from Grand Canyon University in three years, graduating in May 2013.  At GCU, Smith led the Lopes to three PacWest Conference Championship titles and a berth to the NCAA Division II post-season tournament all three years.  She was named to the 2012 Women’s Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention All-America team, the 2011-12 PacWest Player of the Year, and honorable mention all-region in 2012.  She served as the team captain in her final season, 2012-13.
 
In her three years at Grand Canyon, Smith averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  She ranked first in the conference and 11th in NCAA Division II with an 87.5 free throw percentage.  She holds several marks in the PacWest Conference season record books, including the second best three-point field goal percentage (39.8), the third highest scoring average (16.2 points per game), and the seventh most assists (75).  She also scored in double figures in 24 of 26 games during the 2012-13 season, including a career-high 34 point performance while tying the PacWest record with eight three-pointers made.
 
After graduating from GCU in 2013, Smith continued her playing career and education at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.  She guided SUU to the Big Sky regular season championship and to the second round of the women’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
