Hayden Mangan enters his third year leading communications efforts for the Skyhawks football, men's soccer, men's basketball, softball, and men's and women's golf programs in the 2024-25 academic year.
Mangan, who was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Fan Engagement in April of 2024 following a bump to Assistant Director of Athletics Communications in November of 2023, oversees all aspects of athletic communications for his assigned sports including but not limited to statistics, writing, media relations, social media, photography, graphic design, and website management.
In his first two seasons in Durango, he provided coverage for the nationally-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team that spent 31 consecutive weeks on the NABC Top 25 Poll, posted the second-best record in Division II at 58-8 over the past two seasons, ranked first in DII in average attendance, and won three conference titles in two years. He also covered the 2023 nationally-ranked men's soccer squad that tripled its total wins from 2022, won the RMAC Regular Season title for the first time since 2011, and helped the Skyhawks play host to the 2023 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament up on the rim.
Mangan came to Durango after spending two years at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. During that time, he served as an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant while earning his master’s degree in Athletic Administration.
During his two years at Central Washington, Mangan served as the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, baseball, outdoor track and field, and women’s rugby. In addition, he provided secondary coverage for football, men’s basketball, and women’s soccer.
His primary responsibilities included in-game statistics, management of the athletic website and social media campaigns, assistance with game day operations such as set up and tear down of equipment, and the development and distribution of the monthly CWU Athletic Director Newsletter.
Upon taking over responsibility for various social media channels, CWU teams saw an instant boost in interaction, impressions, and followers. Mangan was responsible for the CWU women’s basketball Instagram which saw major growth in categories such as accounts reached (+167.0%), accounts engaged (+93.1%), and total followers (+8.4%). The Twitter/X account also saw significant growth, improving in categories such as page visits (+272.7%), impressions (224.4%), and followers (+9.1%).
Mangan, a native of Kent, Washington, earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a focus in Coaching from Central Washington University in 2020 and his master's degree in Athletic administration in 2022.
