October 24, 2009. Durango, CO – The #13 Fort Lewis College Women's soccer team (15-2-1 overall, 11-2-1 RMAC) took on UC-Colorado Springs Friday evening beating the Mountain Lions 2-1 on the road.
The Skyhawks had to come from behind after the Mountain Lions got on the board 1-0 in the 16th minute of the first half. Senior Sam Smith tallied her third goal of the season to tie the game in the 28th minute off of a cross from Nichole Kluk.
Coming in the second half tied at 1-1, the Skyhawks continued to play hard despite having to leave 5 of their players at home with the flu. Junior Erika Shisler netted the game winner off of a cross from Elena Benavides that was deflected off a defender finding Shisler, who was able to put the ball away putting the Skyhawks up 2-1.
The Skyhawks outshot the Mountain Lions 34 to 13 as Smith led the Hawks' with 3 shots while Shisler and Hayley Hollenga each had 2 shots in the match.
The Skyhawks will stay on the road for Sunday's game as the take on Regis University in Denver, CO at 1:00pm.
