October 26, 2009. Durango, CO - With snow falling the entire game, the #13 Fort Lewis Women's soccer team came away with a tie against Regis University Sunday afternoon in Denver. The Skyhawks improved to 15-2-2 overall and 11-2-2 in the RMAC after they were able to tie the game 2-2 with just three minutes left in regulation.
The Skyhawks gained the lead 1-0 in the 7th minute when sophomore
Hayley Hollenga assisted junior
Erika Shisler for the goal. Shisler was able to get her 7th goal on the season after she slipped the ball past the RU goalkeeper in the lower left corner of the net.
Both teams continued to battle as Regis managed to tie the game in the first half when RU Jordan Miller's cross was deflected to Ranger Kari Taylor who was able to get it past FLC goalkeeper
Christine Schmelzle.
The Rangers took the lead in the 67th minute when RU Taylor White scored on a shot about 30 yards out. Hollenga earned her 3rd point in the game with just three minutes left to play in regulation when she beat the keeper off of a pass from sophomore
Michelle Felten.
Both teams were held scoreless in both overtime periods ending the game in a 2-2 tie. The Rangers outshot the Skyhawks 23-7 as Schmelzle made 6 saves in the match.
The Skyhawks will be hosting Colorado State University-Pueblo Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm for Senior Day.
