November 27, 2009. St. George, UT. - The Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (7-0) checked off another team from their list, recording their seventh victory of the season after crushing the Academy of Art University (1-1) 78-54. This was the Skyhawks first of two games over the weekend in the Dixie State Thanksgiving Classic in St. George, UT.
Fort Lewis jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead and continued to make their lead grow, giving themselves a 21 point cushion at the break 45-24. The Skyhawks shot an astounding 59% from the field in the first half while holding the Urban Knights to 42% and forcing them into 13 turnovers. Allison Rosel and Audrey George carried the Skyhawks in the first half scoring half their points with 12 and 11 respectively.
In the second half, the Hawks' took advantage of the Knights turnovers and scored 30 fast break points and held the Knights to 1-9 from behind the arc. Fort Lewis' lead would grow to 29 at one point (63-34) in the second half. With the reserves in, the Skyhawks would maintain control of the game and put up 33 points in the second half and hold on for the victory 78-54.
The Skyhawks were able to spread the offense around and have six players score five points or more. Rosel capped the night off leading the Hawks' with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. George finished with 14 of her own followed by Mary Rose Paiz who tallied 11 points and 9 boards off the bench. Verity Pitts led the Urban Knights with 18 points.
Fort Lewis remains undefeated at 7-0 and will take on Dixie State today at 3:00 pm. The Skyhawks defeated the Rebels (2-1) earlier this season 68-54. To view the game on Live Stats, click on the following link.
