LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Sara Egbom scored two goals as No. 6 Fort Lewis College (13-1-0 overall, 9-1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) defeated Colorado Christian University (1-13-1, 1-9-1) 3-1 today in women's soccer action at the CCU Soccer Field.
Egbom's unassisted goal at 29:57 on a rebound gave the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead. She later converted a pass from Elena Benavides at 48:42 in what proved to be the eventual game-winner and was her fourth goal of the season and second game-winning marker.
Colorado Christian trimmed the lead in half at 53:55 when Kaylan Bearden put one past FLC goalkeeper Christine Schmelzle.
Torrey Larson put the game out of reach when she scored her second goal of the year with just 18 seconds remaining in the game. Larson converted a centering pass from Ashley Kniffen.
The Skyhawks outshot the Cougars 17-7 overall, 8-3 in shots on goal. Egbom led the attack with five shots, all of which were on target.
Liana Signorile made five saves for Colorado Christian, while Schmelzle stopped two shots for Fort Lewis.
The Skyhawks continue their Denver road trip when they play at No. 11 Metro State (9-2-1, 5-2-1) at noon on Sunday.
“It's big,” fourth-year head coach Damian Clarke said of the battle against perennial national title contender Metro State. “The Metro State game is the biggest game of the year again for us.”
