DURANGO, Colo. — The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will go pink to raise money for the Women's Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado this Sunday when they face Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. at Dirks Field.
Pink t-shirts will be sold for $20 to raise money for the cause.
Admission costs $10 for adults, $5 for students (ages 13-18) and senior citizens (ages 65+), and $3 for students (ages 6-12). Fort Lewis students, faculty, and staff with ID are admitted for free, as are children ages 5 and younger.
Kids who compete on U12 and younger soccer teams with FLC pink soccer jerseys will also be admitted for free.
After five straight road games, the Skyhawks (8-2-2 overall, 4-2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) return home for a pair on their home pitch next weekend. Colorado State-Pueblo (1-9-1 overall, 1-7-0 RMAC) visits Dirks Field at 1 p.m. Friday, while Colorado Mesa (8-1-3, 5-1-2) comes to Durango at 1 p.m. Sunday.
“We are working ourselves through a tough spell and we are coming out the other side a better team,” said sixth-year FLC head coach Damian Clarke, whose team has fallen out of the NSCAA/Continental Tire national rankings in recent weeks. Sunday's opponent, Colorado Mesa, received votes in this week's poll but failed to crack the Top 25.
Friday's meeting between the Skyhawks and ThunderWolves is their first of 2012. FLC holds a slim, 15-14-5 advantage in the all-time series.
Sunday's contest with Colorado Mesa is their second meeting of 2012, with the two teams playing to a 0-0 scoreless tie through two overtimes in Grand Junction last month. FLC leads the all-time series 15-12-4. The Mavericks haven't beaten the Skyhawks since the 2007 season and are 0-7-2 against FLC during that stretch.
