Fort Lewis 2, No. 10 Metro State 1

Senior Emma Cannis
Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – Senior Emma Cannis scored her third game-winning goal and fifth goal of the season Friday afternoon at Dirks Field as the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team defeated No. 10 Metro State, 2-1.

The win lifted the Skyhawks season record to 12-3-0 and 8-3-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The loss was the first of the season for the 10th-ranked Roadrunners (11-1-3 overall, 9-1-1 RMAC).

The game started two hours and 15 minutes later than originally scheduled due to continuous lightnening delays.  Senior Sam Weiss netted her eighth goal of the season at 38:08 to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead at the half.  Jordan Hix sent the ball through the midfield for Cannis to finish from 16 yards out.  Emma Cannis added an insurance goal at 51:01 off of Shey Haycock's corner kick to boost the lead to 2-1.

With less than eight minutes to play in regulation, the Skyhawks fouled in the box forcing a penalty kick.  Abby Rolph's penalty kick attempt hit the post and after several bumper ball attempts Rolph found the back corner of the net to cut the Skyhawks lead to 2-1.

Fort Lewis edged the Roadrunners in shots, 14-11, and corner kicks, 6-5.

The Skyhawks will travel to UC-Colorado Springs Sunday for an 11 a.m. match.
