Grace Sheridan and
Megan Striedel combined to each earn their first soccer points of the season Sunday morning at UC-Colorado Springs. Sheridan found Striedel just 23 minutes into the game to notch the game-winning goal in the Skyhawks 2-0 win over the Mountain Lions.
"It was a great game today and to win again and get two on the weekend was really good," said Fort Lewis College head women's coach Damian Clarke. "It's been awhile since we've done that. It was a great effort defensively. Caitlyn was solid in goal and organizing the back four. On the attacking side, Striedel, Shea, Brooke and Sammy were very strong today."
The Skyhawks win moves them to 13-3 overall and 9-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The loss drops UCCS to 9-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in the league.
Sam Weiss scored her team leading ninth goal of the season at 28:59 to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.
The Skyhawks registered eight shots in the first half and four shots in the second half, edging the Mountain Lions by two.
Caitlyn Espinosa earned her 12
th win of the season and ninth shutout after making four saves between the posts.
The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado Mesa Friday for a 4 p.m. match, before playing host to Colorado Mines in the Skyhawks final regular home game of the season.
