Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. – For the first time this season, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team was held scoreless, as they suffered their first loss of the season Friday afternoon at Western State, 2-0.
I think the loss is going to end up being good for us," said Skyhawks head coach Damian Clarke. "In all reality they were a tough team and they counterattacked us very well. We didn't play bad, we just didn't score a goal. I thought tactically they were very astute and they made it difficult for us. We had a lot of chances to score. It's hard to score goals and if you don't put it away when you have the chances, then they'll make us pay, and they did."
The Skyhawks (6-1-0, 2-1-0 RMAC) held Western State (4-3-0, 1-2-0 RMAC) to three shots in each half. Five of the Mountaineers shots landed on goal, with both goals being scored by Elise Boisnard. Both teams were scoreless in the first half before Boisnard netted her first and second goals of the season in the 51
st and 79
th minute of the game.
Sam Weiss led both teams with five shots in the game. Ten different Skyhawks posted a shot attempt against the Mountaineers. All four of Boisnard's shots against FLC were on goal.
Fort Lewis will stay on the road this Sunday at CSU-Pueblo. The Skyhawks and ThunderWolves will kick off at 12 p.m.
